Super Moon Maine Photographer

Day 19 of 30, in the 30 day self imposed blog challenge. 
Those of us who love an excuse to practice our craft had a wonderful opportunity last night with the well advertised "super moon" upon us.  I loved that the temps were mild last night also, and I didn't even leave my back yard for this photo.  For those of you curious about the settings on my camera, let me first say I took a total of 30 photos.  Many of them with great results...but this one ended up being my favorite.  My shutter speed was 1/800, my aperature 7.1, my ISO 100, my focal lenghth 270mm.  Even though my shutter speed was plenty fast enough I still set my camera up on a tripod and used the self timer mode to reduce camera shake.

Day 17 of 30.Denny.Scarborough ME Dog Photographer

Hello, for day 17 I'm sticking with the dogs...not because it's been raining cats and dogs, but because today's post is one I've been saving for a rainy day.  Two years ago I photographed Julie's wedding. (you can see my post here, even thought the slide show has expired. Julie & Andy )
Julie has been wonderful to me both as a friend, and as a former bride, Julie has sent me a few wedding referrals.  I wanted to thank her for her referrals and offered her a large photo from her own wedding, but she asked me if I would photograph her dog Denny instead.  Yes, it's a win win for both of us, she gets a photo shoot of her dog, and I get to do a photo shoot on a dog.  See...win win!  Another thing I found out in this process is that most of my former brides have a dog!  So, for all my former or future brides out there, please note, for every two wedding referrals you bless me with, I will gift you back with a free photo shoot of your dog, and I will include an 8x10 Aritiplaq of your favorite shot.

Day 16 of 30 in the 30 day blog challenge.
Meet Ernie.  March's dog portrait winner of my monthly contest at the Dog Wash Etc.
Ernie will be 2 years old in July, and he is a lab mix.  I believe he came from Tennessee, the son of a stray, and one of 8 in a mixed litter of puppies.  Did you know that when a dog is in heat she can be bred by more than one dog...resulting in puppies with different fathers?  It's true!

Can a dam who has mated with more than one stud during a single heat, have pups from both fathers. Yes, when a dam mates with more than one stud, both of the studs can impregnate the female at the same time. Pups from a single litter can have different fathers, as the sperm from both fathers, will swim around, waiting for the eggs to ripen. The sperm from both fathers, will live in the dam for 5 days.

 (When I heard this I couldn't help but think of Jodie Foster in The Accused)(...never mind...)

Anyway, back to Ernie.
Ernie is very high spirited and active.  We became friends instantly...and when I offered him my squeaky toy for keeps he didn't hesitate to take it and run.  Although Ernie is very much a part of his family, there is some concern that they are not a perfect match and that he may not be living to his fullest potential.  Ernie currently lives in a suburban neighborhood with a busy family, but his behavior and mannerisms leave us believing that Ernie wants to be the center of attention and desires a whole lot more room to roam than what he currently has.  Ernie is not even 2 years old yet, he has a lot of living left to do, and his family is giving hard thought to Ernie's best interests and what might be the next biggest adventure for him.

Day 15 Half way to 30.Maine Cat Photographer

I'm half way through my 30 day blog challenge.  Thank you to those of you who have let me know you are enjoying it.  I've already made myself a new challenge for when this one is over...but that can wait.

Trial and Error.Maine Wedding Photographer

Day 14 of 30.April showers bring May flowers.Maine Photographer

April showers bring May flowers, although in our case...it seems quite the opposite.  I took these photos of the blooms on the trees yesterday, the last day of April...because today...the first day of May it poured buckets!  And one more confession to make.  I never really noticed tree blossoms, until I started looking at life from behind my camera lens.  I can also admit that Fall is my favorite season of all...and always has been...but for moments like this...I'm starting to like Spring too!
