Photography playtime

A few weeks ago I asked my friend Theresa if she would mind accompanying me to Cape Elizabeth to play in the sunshine. I wanted to do a bit of practicing, photographing white during the brightest hours of the day, in preparation for an upcoming June Friday afternoon wedding. Theresa didn't disappoint me. She was happy to wear this beautiful white dress and come share a play date with me! Along the way we met an old friend of hers and these two kids...who were also happy to strike a pose for me. Enjoy the photos!

Oh...and one more thing...the wedding I was preparing for was this past Friday...the same day Monsoon weather hit our State. It was time for a new strategy...I no longer had to worry about bright sunshine and harsh shadows...but alas...I shall save that for another post!

Get Motivated Seminar in Portland

Wow it's been a while since I posted....I'm definitely struggling with time management at this point in time. Like many of you I struggle with making a decent meal for the family, especially when our schedules are racing us to different locations at the same time.
A few weeks ago I attended the "Get Motivated" seminar at the Portland Civic Center. I thought it would be good for me personally and with my business. I had good intentions, but the day itself turned out to be one I couldn't wait to put behind me. I really have no desire to detail it here, let's just say I had parking issues that followed me around ALL day! From choosing a meter, feeding a meter, relocating to another meter, finding change for a new meter, finding a garage, coming up with more money to pay for the garage, missing 45 minutes of the seminar locating a garage...and the whole day ended with me leaving my seminar workbook behind in a coffee shop, realizing it, finding another meter, a nickle to feed it with, only to find the shop closed and my workbook gone forever. I was so tired when I got home there was no possible way to "Get Motivated"...however I did get some cool pictures to share!

Earth Day 2009

I am a regular subscriber to Photojojo 's emails (Photojojo <click@photojojo.com>) because I just love these guys...they have a huge sense of humor...anyways, this week they linked me up to an Earth Day task I thought would be fun...to provide a picture to help photograph our world. You can check out the link called earthmosaic (http://earthmosaic.org/index.html). Anyways, this morning I went looking around my "neighborhood" for a good photo...here are some samples. The one I'm submitting isn't making it to this post...but here are a few of my favorites.

Portland Dog Wash

Enjoy some of my photos from our recent trip to the Portland Dog Wash. Tasha, like many dogs, is a magnet to mud and other smelly, oozy, slimy outdoor substances found in backyards. In addition to her magnetism disorder, she also will not get into our bathtub! She is a very stubborn old girl, and even the most enticing doggy treats won't work...so...that's where the Portland Dog Wash fits in. Although it is most economical to wash your loved ones at home, there are times when fighting with a stubborn dirty smelly dog just isn't worth it! The benefits of the Portland Dog Wash are well worth the admission price. My precious Tasha came home with clean ears, a brighter dazzling smile, and a fresh smelling coat of fur! I suppose it's worth mentioning the boys enjoyed the visit too!

Sweet Sweet Sunday

Not just ANY Sunday, but Maple Syrup Sunday! This was the first year we attended one of these local events as a family. Usually the fourth Sunday of the month already has some sort of activity scheduled, not allowing us the opportunity to go out and experience what so many other Mainers already have experienced! But there is always time for a first...and it was obvious to us that THOUSANDS of Mainers were enjoying this particular annual SWEET holiday! Enjoy!

Climb up Black Mountain

This past weekend I accompanied my son Josh and his boys scout troop on a climb up Black Mountain, which is located in Jackson NH. My decision to go was based on my inability to let Josh go without me. I knew I would be carrying about 40lbs in my backpack and dragging a sled with a log of firewood on it, and I knew this was a mountain climb...so I knew it would be uphill work...and I knew I was not in the best physical shape to do it...but with everything I knew...I still wasn't ready to let Josh go without me. Saturday morning, wearing snow pants (1/2 lb), and snow boots (3 lbs), and snowshoes (2 lbs), and the (#*! heavy backpack)...Josh and I began our
climb...
It was not easy, not by a long shot...for two people who are not "physically in shape." With lots of encouragement from our fellow climbers we kept on walking. Uphill. After about a half hour I had to stop to catch my breath about every 25 steps. I could hear my heart pounding in my ears. (Good excuse to stop and take a picture!). Lucky for Josh, we had loaded a smaller backpack for him, and one of the scout leaders had volunteered to pull up Josh's sled for him. Josh was doing OK. As for mom...one step at a time. I can only compare it to child labor...in that you know there is an end in sight, and once you reach the end, you may even consider doing it again! Our climb up took us two hours. What were the sleds for? The ride down of course...I'm happy and proud to say I didn't need to stop and catch my breath...and made it down in under an hour! Enjoy the pictures! I took these with Joshua's lightweight Canon Powershot A590 (under a pound!), which I carried in my pocket. The photo above is from the summit of Black Mountain looking at Mt. Washington. You can see the weather tower!
